In recent months, we have needed to increase the server resources allocated to several website hosting accounts. When a site exceeds its available memory, processing or concurrent-request limits, visitors may experience slow performance, 500-, 503- or hosting-specific 508 errors, and temporary website outages.
Most of the WordPress sites we have built have evolved over time, adding features, plugins and background processes that may require additional resources. Increased legitimate traffic—and particularly automated bot traffic—can also consume memory, processing capacity and available connections. When monitoring confirms that a site is regularly reaching its limits, increasing its hosting resources may be appropriate.
