Words with Friends’ Advertising Model

Dear Words with Friends,

I’ve played the mobile version of your game for a while now, and I have to say something about it:

Your advertising model is not very good.  Nor is the advertising using it.

Maybe you have something in the works that is going to make sense.  But right now, you have slow ad servers interrupting the flow of games, terrible ads of absolutely no interest, and I can’t possibly think why anyone would click thru on some of those cheesy videos except from exasperation (which is not a good selling emotion).

What would make sense is a Google Adwords model, where the ads are derived from the words that are actually played on the board.  What would make sense are ads that ran ALONG with the game on a small sidebar, rather than making users wait for 60 seconds for an ad to load, play, and provide a skip button.

Maybe Facebook won’t let you do it.  Maybe the technology buy-in is too expensive right now.  But the way you are providing advertisements looks cludged in, as if you suddenly realized you needed a revenue model and this was the easiest way to do it at this point.

But it seems like your advertising model and implementation should be better in order to meet the standards of quality of the rest of your game.
